Whitewash for Bush

Let’s be very clear about the coming report on the pre-war intelligence on Iraq. The commission was only set up after it was clear that the blame would be placed on the intelligence community, and not on the Bush Administration for its abuse and misuse of the intelligence community and the pre-war intelligence that it generated.

The commission has done its job well. It will cover up the bludgeoning of the intelligence community by the Bush Administration to come up with the justification for the war that the Bush Administration had already decided to launch; and when the results from its threats and abuse were not satisfactory, the Bush Administration set up a separate agency in the Defense Department to “manufacture” the intelligence it wanted.

This report will be tough on the CIA because it would not bend to the will of the Bush Administration and falsify its reports. Porter Goss was installed to bring the CIA to heal, and this Whitewash Report will be a further lesson to the CIA about the penalties for independence. After this Whitewash Report, we can all be sure that whatever intelligence Bush needs to attack or invade Iran will be manufactured. Porter Goss already told us so when he said that the role of the intelligence community was to support the administration.
